CLASSIC YOUR LIE IN APRIL ANIME GIRL ART SERIES
I personally give the series a 9/10, the one point coming off it purely for the inappropriate use of comedy in serious situations and the fact of how young the characters are (hint: they're all 14, and could've stood to have been a few years older). Your Lie in April is an astounding series that takes you on a journey from dark into light, and the emotions this anime gives you are not to be missed. However, this was probably due to the animation budget being used primarily for where they needed it most. However, sometimes the animation gets a little sloppy, either for the purpose of comedic effect or because they otherwise felt they should use it.

The competitions are beautifully animated, and the series often uses colors and other visual effects as metaphors and symbolism. The ending themes are equally beautiful, and fit with the softer side of the emotional ride that is Your Lie in April. The two openings, Hikaru nara (If we shine) and Nanairo Symphony (Rainbow Symphony) are beautiful, and fit wonderfully with the series, each reflecting the emotions and drive of the two halves of the show. The art and sound of the series is phenomenal, as expected from a series about music. Despite this, he's a good friend of Kousei and Tsubaki, and loyal to them, unlike in the field of romance. Watari is another of Kousei's friends, and known in their middle school as a huge playboy - he goes after all the girls, flirting with all, leaving none alone. She wants to support Kousei in any way she can, shown numerous times through the series. She's an energetic girl as well, good at pretty much any sport.

Like Kaori, she wanted Kousei to get back into music, but wasn't sure how to do it. Tsubaki is Kousei's childhood friend, and knows him like the back of her hand. She's determined to bring him back into the world of music no matter what, even if he gets a few bumps and scrapes along the way. But Kaori, our vibrant, energetic violinist, is here to change all that. He's kind, and has mostly come to terms with his situation and just wants to continue his peaceful life with his friends. He was held back by his feelings about his mother's death, and couldn't hear the piano as a result. The characters are pretty realistic, and have conflicts and emotions that we can relate to. This is where the true focus of the series is, and where it shines the most. Nonetheless, the series does still focus on the music quite a bit, so the competitions are wonderful. The competitions merely provide a vehicle for this. But make no mistake: the series isn't about how well Kousei and Kaori do in the competitions, it's about how they grow as musicians and as people. This is mostly due to the fact that the story is divided into several arcs, based on the piano competitions that take place.

Kaori helps Kosei return to the music world and show that it should be free and mold breaking unlike the structured and rigid style Kosei was used to.īelieve it or not, Your Lie in April is classified as not only a drama and a romance, but also as a shounen. Miyazono Kaori is a pretty, free spirited violinist whose playing style reflects her personality. He was content at living out his life with his good friends Tsubaki and Watari until, one day, a girl changed everything. Even two years later, Kosei hasn't touched the piano and views the world in monotone, and without any flair or color. But after his mother, who was also his instructor, passed away, he had a mental breakdown while performing at a recital that resulted in him no longer being able to hear the sound of his piano even though his hearing was perfectly fine. Piano prodigy Arima Kosei dominated the competition and all child musicians knew his name.

This is a story of two such musicians, who meet and interact in a way that allows them both to shine. But both provide a way to let your feelings flow into the world like no other, and often without any control. The same is true for the violin, though the piano is considered more prestigious. The piano is an instrument that many people learn to play, and some get good enough at it to win competitions. "I met the girl under the cherry blossoms, and my fate has begun to change."
